From the Greek Πολυξενη (Polyxene) which meant 'many foreigners', derived from πολλοι (polloi) 'many' and ξενοι (xenoi) 'foreigners, strangers'. In Greek legend she was a daughter of Priam and Hecuba, beloved by Achilles. After the Trojan War, Achilles' son Neoptolemus sacrificed her.
