A famous bearer was the Polish president Lech Wałęsa (1943-). Lech is a Polish name and was the name of a legendary founder of Poland, which was earlier called Lechia. The name Lechia was supposed to be derived from the name of a Slavic tribe "Ledziania", itself derived from the word "leda", which means "uncultivated field".
